Upstream SHEQ Measurement

Behaviour data is an essential component for continuous improvement in SHEQ performance. Behaviour data quantifies and qualifies the patterns of behaviour and can predict the outcome of at-risk behaviours (SHEQ) in advance of any accident, injury, loss, and relationship problems (early warning system). Therefore, behaviour data is an essential prerequisite for making continuous improvement in SHEQ a reality.

The BBS© process starts by taking a baseline measurement (where are we now?) and them samples on a regular planned basis (how are we improving?). Goals to improve are set by teams (where do we want to be?) and the results of the measurements are fed back to all concerned. This is a never-ending process that ensures continuous improvement in SHEQ performance.

In comparison with the early warning power of the BBS© process approach to SHEQ performance, the reliance on injury rates, non-conformances etc. as the sole measure of performance shows up for what it is – misleading and reactive.
