ADVISORY, CONSULTING AND PRACTICAL BUSINESS ORIENTATED ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

The UAE has experienced radical growth in last decade and will continue to grow in the decades to follow. Environmental management is becoming an increasingly common requirement for businesses and economies around the world. IRCA Middle East has a dedicated environmental division providing clients with a wide range of practical and business orientated environmental management solutions.

Our mission is to provide clients with an integrated environmental management solution that fits in with each individual business requirement and aimed at enhancing revenue potential.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY

Global attitudes towards environmental management have changed dramatically over the years, with more focus on designing environmentally friendly businesses, and sustainable resource management. Dubai is fast becoming a global icon for travel and business, therefore, it is important to ensure the environmental sustainability of the region. This begins with individual organisations employing environmental management processes within their businesses.

HOW DOES YOUR ORGANIZATION MEASURE UP?

With more controls and requirements being placed on organizations with regard to

environmental policy, including environmental management and corporate social responsibility (CSR), it is essential organizations can demonstrate to customers, owners and other stakeholders that they have put in place effective procedures and practices to safeguard the future.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

Many businesses in the UAE are not aware of the benefit correct environmental management can have to their production efficiency. IRCA ME offers an Environmental Management Strategy service which is a high level strategic assessment normally conducted during the feasibility stage of the project. This then feeds into the business plan and allows the potential environmental impacts to be mitigated or minimized by altering the facilities design.

BASELINE STUDIES

Before any development can be approved a baseline study must be done to establish the environmental conditions on site. Parameters that a typical Baseline Assessment would include;

  • Air quality
  • Noise
  • Groundwater
  • Surface water
  • Biodiversity
  • Soils

Following the baseline study, it is possible to determine the impacts that a development will have on the environment and this study will form the basis for the Environmental Impact Assessment.

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENTS (EIA)

IRCA ME employs a method of assessment that is designed to allow for effectiveness and efficiency in identifying any potential impacts from an activity, whilst still allowing for maximum revenue potential.

The following is an example of a typical method used to assess the potential environmental impacts for an activity during the design phase:

  • Assess and understand the activity that is to take place
  • Identify the main environmental issues and aspects
  • Agree the relative significance of the environmental aspects
  • Assess the environmental performance of the proposed activity against the significant aspects
  • Identify significant positive and negative impacts
  • Evaluate the overall environmental impact of the scheme to enable comparison between alternative proposals
  • Facilitate an inclusive approach with the project stakeholders

It is important to understand that having the correct environmental management procedures in place can improve the revenue potential of an activity.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PLAN (EMP)

Management plans are an integral part of environmental management as they detail the measures required to mitigate or reduce the effects of the impacts identified during the EIA process.

An EMP is often a law binding document and when followed correctly, can result in more efficient manufacturing processes and a cleaner operation.

ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ( EMS )

Many companies turn to an EMS as the most effective way of showing customers and shareholders how they are controlling their environmental impacts. They also reap the benefits of an enhanced image, greater market share and reduced liability.

We have helped bring these advantages to clients in industries as diverse as power generation, engine manufacture, water supply, high tech components and mining houses. Our approach is to work closely with our clients to develop an EMS that not only meets the formal standards of ISO 14001 but is also tailor-made to their specific needs. We formulate a strategy based on agreed environmental objectives, analysis of corporate structure and baseline assessments of the surrounding environment.

To ensure accountability, we make sure that the performance can be measured against transparent, auditable criteria.

SITE WASTE MANAGEMENT PLANS (SWMP)

Waste Management Plans focus largely on on-site operations and primarily identify:

  • An individual responsible for resource management
  • The types of waste that will be generated
  • Resource management options for these wastes
  • The use of appropriate and licensed waste management contractors
  • A plan for monitoring and reporting on resource use and the quantity of waste

KEY BENEFITS OF A SWMP:

  • Compliance of contractual needs of public and private sector needs
  • Help you to deal with any queries from environmental regulatory
